A Tea Party

Isabelle has been asking for months to celebrate her birthday with a tea party. We started working on it, but I didn't get the invitations out.  Things were very busy with the end of school.  I decided it would be better to wait until after school got out.  She has mostly played with her cousin who lived up the street, but sadly they have moved and will soon be on the other side of the country.  Especially with kindergarten starting in the fall, I thought it was important for her to make stronger connections with some of the neighborhood kids.  Unfortunately several ended up being out of town and one was sick.  We only ended up with one of the neighbors and the rest cousins.  They still had a lot of fun though.

The preparations began in the morning we cleaned the house and made sure everything was ready.  We made sugar cookies for them to decorate.   The dough was not cooperating.  we would cut out the cookies, but they would mush when we tried to transfer them to the trays.  Finally I rolled the dough out on the trays so we didn't have to transfer them.  It worked out well.  I don't have a tea set, and I thought about buying one. Then I had the thought that I had all those snake trays we had inherited.  What is the point if they just sit in the basement?  The neighbor girl was amazed that I was letting them use glassware.  My two nieces (the ones who were moving) came over early and the older one helped my cut up fruit and wash the trays.

Finally everything was reading and all we needed were guests.  I was a little worried when it was ten after and no one had shown up.  I knew ahead of time that not everyone was coming, but there were a few I hadn't heard from.  As they showed up they went down into the family room where they danced to music from The Little Mermaid.  When everyone had arrived we returned to the kitchen where they picked out flowers to make hair bows similar to the one I made a few weeks ago.  While I glued the bows, the girls colored princess pictures.

We then played games, which I found on a birthday party website.  We played "Kiss the Frog."  I had made a poster of a frog and while blindfolded they placed their kiss (a sticker) on the frog.  They thought it was a lot of fun.  Next we played "Find the Pea."  I had pillows placed in a circle.  Under one was a pea (a golf ball.)  A "real princess" would know they were on the "pea." This was repeated several times.  Also lots of fun.

After the games we returned to the kitchen for the tea party.   They decorated their cookies and had grapes, cantaloupe and punch.  Then we got out the cake and sang happy birthday.  Everyone enjoyed the snacks.

The cake was made by my friend Liz.  She  recently started decorating cakes and has done some pretty fun things.  Check out her blog here.

After they were done eating everyone was given a bracelet and a bubble wand, which they went outside to play with until parents arrived.  I thought that it went fairly well.  Especailly since this was my first time hosting a friend party.  I think that I enjoy hosting, but I always get really stressed out.  I also don't get into the whole decorating thing.  I don't think that the kids minded though.

Birthday and Christmas Wish List

I know that my birthday is already over, but some people may want to get me a gift.  Especially since I have only gotten one gift so far (I actually did get some money as well) if you don't count the trip and anything I might have bought myself.

The last few years I have had a hard time thinking of things that I wanted.  This year we have no money because of spending it on the basement and an unexpected trip to Hawaii, but I actually have things that I want this year. So here it is.

Mulan Princess Doll

Someone would like me to play princesses with her.  I thought it would be fun if I had my own doll to play with.  There is a good chance my princess will be getting this one for me.

 Lego Cabin

I have always wanted to have a cabin.  Possibly in Island Park or Bear Lake or somewhere else fun. I recently found a cabin that is supper cute and affordable. (Well, as affordable as any Lego set.)

Pop Goes the World by Men Without Hats

I remembered this album recently.  I haven't listened to it in a long time, and I don't know what happened to the cassette.  Maybe Eric has it since it was actually his.  I remember going to several stores at the Montgomery Mall to help Michelle find the tape she gave Eric for either his birthday or Christmas.  I thought it would be fun to have on CD. I played the samples for Thomas.  He wasn't all that impressed, but I don't care.

Salad Spinner

We have been trying to eat a little more healthy lately.  I have made several salads lately.  I think that it would be nice to have a salad spinner.  I don't really care what brand it is, as long as it works.  I haven't really looked to see what kinds of options they have.

Bed Quilt

I mentioned to my mom a while ago that a new quilt for our bed would helpful since the one we have now is not queen sized and it is getting thread bare on the seams.  I told my mom early so she could do it ahead of time, but I also told her not to make it if it was stressful.  You may need to check with her on this item. This would be a quilt and not a bed spread.

 Carpet and Surround

The last thing is the most expensive.  This one is really just to let you know that if you weren't excited about the items above, I will accept cash, and have something to spend it on.  As most people know we have been trying to finish our basement so that the baby doesn't have to share a room with the computers anymore. We have mostly run out of money that can be spent on this project; however, we still need carpet.  I was able to purchase my awsome new tub, but sadly I can't use it because it doesn't have a surround.  The one we looked at originaly is way too expensive.  We are going to get a bid on title.  I would love to have a bath in my new tub.  I was hoping to do it for my birthday, but now I'm thinking Christmas would be nice. I don't want to have to wait until Mother's Day.

There are also a few CD's Thomas wants.  Please notes that these are soundtracks and not movies:

Speaking of movies, there may be some that we want, we don't know what they are.  Possibly X-men first class.  I saw it, but Thomas didn't.  We do however own the good movies in that series.  Most of the others that have come out recently  we never saw and so don't know that we want to own them.  So, if there is something you think that we would really enjoy...

Happy Shopping and have a wonderful Holiday.

The rest of you let me know what you want.
